You may be eligible to convert your fail grade so it doesn’t affect your WAM nor trigger unsatisfactory progress.
If you were prevented from successfully completing your unit due to special circumstances you may be eligible to apply for your failed grade to be converted to a Withdrawn (WDN) grade.
Applications for WDN and fee reversal must be lodged no later than 10 university working days from the release of the relevant result. Applications for fee reversal only must be lodged within 12 months of withdrawing from the unit. If you failed the unit, you'll need to apply within 12 months of the last day of the teaching period.
To be eligible you need to meet all four criteria:
-
You failed the unit
-
Special Circumstances exist that were beyond your control and did not make their full impact until on or after the census date
-
You apply by the due date (some late applications are accepted for exceptional circumstances)
-
You have no findings of academic misconduct for the unit (this is not applicable for fee reversal).
Acceptable reasons for a WDN include:
· medical, including mental health
· family/personal
· employment-related
· course related
· other extreme circumstances beyond your control, including a natural disaster, serious accident, obligations to emergency or military service or civic obligations
Supporting documentation must be included as part of your application.
Supporting documents such as records of hospital admission, police reports, notifications of obligations to emergency or military services or civic obligations, and an impact statement from a health professional are acceptable.
If you believe you may be eligible for a WDN Grade contact Student Rights + Support to discuss your circumstances. A WDN grade is not included in Unsatisfactory Progress calculations and it does not affect your WAM or GPA.
